Weather at the Field

Often, only certain fields may be impacted, or the stormshappen quickly near game time. In those situations, the officials at the fieldhave sole discretion on playing, and will advise the league of status.

All FXA leagues adhere to Fairfax County policy regardingsevere weather (thunder, lightning) which all players, coaches, managers, andreferees are responsible for implementing. It is a requirement that if anyindividual involved with the League (including non-playing spectators)seeslightning or hears thunder, they must bring it to the referee's attentionimmediately. EVERYONE shares in this responsibility. When a member of thereferee crew sees lightning or hears thunder, or is alerted to such by aplayer, coach, manager, or spectator, the referee will immediately suspend playfor 30 minutes. Everyone MUST clear the field and retreat to the parking lot.Anyone who remains on the field after the referee has ordered everyone off thefield acknowledges that they do so at their own risk and that neither theLeague nor the referee crew assigned to the match can be held responsible orany injuries occurring as long as play is suspended.

At no time may an individual ask the referee to ignore thelightning or thunder or insist that play be allowed to continue. The refereewill wait 30 minutes from the last flash of lightning or peal of thunder. Eachtime lightning re-appears or thunder is heard, the referee MUST restart the 30minute clock.

For certain sports, actual game time may be shortened toallow the game to play to completion on the impacted night.

If a game isn't played due to weather, it will berescheduled for later in the season. First priority will be on the same leaguenight, but may be on a different night of the week due to season and fieldlimitations.

In extreme circumstances, FXA Sports does reserve the rightto run a shortened season without a refund. We will make every attempt to getall regular season games played, however for every two (2) game cancellationsdue to weather, the season may be shortened one (1) regular season game.
